Description
Naming
Zappa is a 100% Humulus lupulus var. neomexicanus aroma hop, grown and marketed by CLS Farms. CLS worked with the Zappa Family Foundation to name this hop after another “true wild American,” the late musician, Frank Zappa.
Origin Story
Zappa was recovered in the wild, in the mountains of New Mexico, so it is 100% neomexicanus variety.
Characteristics
Evolving independently, Zappa has developed its own rebellious aroma and unique flavor characteristics: Spicy with strong notes of tropical fruit (mango, passion fruit), citrus, and pine. Additional descriptors include savory, mint, and Fruity Pebbles™.
Aroma hop for whirlpool and dry hopping on its own or with complementary hops that suit about any style: American lagers and IPAs, hazy or milkshake IPAs, fruited sour, pale ale, American strong ale, and wild or mixed-fermentation beers.
