Description
Naming
YQH-1320 is new hop found by owner of Yakima Quality Hops, Tim Satler. 1320 represents the birthdays of Tim’s two children. The hop will be formally named when the time is right.
Origin Story
Tim is an avid fisherman and hunter, and he found this hop growing wild by river on a trip to North Idaho some years ago. In 2021, with the help of Leo Gassling & Sons, they propagated and planted 1,300 plants.
Initial reports we very optimistic with the flavors, aromas and oil content of this hop. Selected brewers receiving limited quantities to brew with from the initial harvest: Again, the reports from brewers were very positive.
YQH-1320 received its USDA approval as a unique hop and 64 acres were planted for 2022 on 3 yards at CLS Farms and Leo Gassling & Sons. The 2022 crop is available commercially and we are excited to offer this unique hop to you.
Characteristics
YQH-1320 has a Clean and bright character with tropical fruit, citrus and stone fruit flavors. It has notes of pineapple, guava, lime, white peach and orange zest.
This is a fairly complex hop, so it should be a good candidate for single hop beers or in combination with other traditional hops in all types of beers that can benefit from fruit forward hops. It’s a beautiful hop.
