Naming

Zappa is a 100% Humulus lupulus var. neomexicanus aroma hop, grown and marketed by CLS Farms. CLS worked with the Zappa Family Foundation to name this hop after another “true wild American,” the late musician, Frank Zappa.

Origin Story

Zappa was recovered in the wild, in the mountains of New Mexico, so it is 100% neomexicanus variety.

Characteristics

Evolving independently, Zappa, has developed its own rebellious aroma and unique flavor characteristics: Spicy with strong notes of tropical fruit (mango, passion fruit), citrus, and pine. Additional descriptors include savory, mint, and Fruity Pebbles™.

Aroma, whirlpool, and dry hopping for any hop- or complementary fruit-forward style: hazy or milkshake IPA, fruited sour, pale ale, American strong ale, and wild or mixed-fermentation beers.
