Naming

Centennial is named after the Washington State Centennial Celebration (1989), which happened one year before the release of the hop.

Origin Story

Bred in 1974 as a cross between Brewer’s Gold and a USDA male, Centennial was released in 1990 and has remained popular with craft brewers.

Noteworthy is that Centennial is the primary hop used in Siera-Navada’s Christmas beer, Celebration Ale. They use Centennial grown by CLS Farms. Famed for the quality and Rose flower character when harvested at the perfect time.

Characteristics

Good bittering hop with notes of grapefruit, flowers, earth and pine

Sometimes referred to as “Super Cascade,” Centennial has a medium-intensity aroma with floral and citrus tones. Renowned for its versatility and affordability, Centennial is a dual-purpose hop that pops in IPAs, pale ales, and some wheat beers.
